The person's attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around the person is temporarily blocked out. Contrary to popular belief, you can’t be hypnotised into doing things against your will. You can’t be forced into a hypnotic state either. You must give your permission to the practitioner and you must allow yourself to be hypnotised. Hypnotherapy is a voluntary altering of your own consciousness, and you are always in control. In other words, you are hypnotising yourself.
